Commonwealth charter schools are publicly funded schools that are privately operated with no local oversight. They hurt students who attend public schools by siphoning hundreds of millions of dollars from Massachusetts school districts. They also create separate and unequal conditions for success by failing to serve as many high-need students as their host districts.

The MTA, and other members of the MEJA coalition, are also part of Campaign to Save Our Public Schools to defeat a ballot initiative that seeks to effectively obliterate the cap on Commonwealth charters.
